Woodland Restoration and Management
Many woodlands are degraded and in peril because native trees and plants have been shaded and choked out by non-native, invasive plants and shrubs. Invasive vegetation outcompetes native vegetation for space, sunlight and nutrients, creating an unattractive monoculture environment with very limited habitat for beneficial wildlife. Woodlands restored with native plants, grasses, shrubs and trees are beautiful and diverse environments abounding with wildflowers and wildlife.
Foot Stone Inc. has the expertise to restore and maintain your woodlands so that they can be fully enjoyed by you and future generations. We offer the following services:
- Clearing and controlling invasive trees and shrubs such as buckthorn and honeysuckle
- Canopy thinning—selective removal of certain trees that were formerly absent or lower in numbers due to fire, for the purpose of increasing the amount of sunlight that reaches the woodland floor and encouraging re-growth of natural understory shrubs and plants
- Controlling non-native invasive weeds such as garlic mustard
- Planting and seeding with native trees and understory shrubs and plants
- Prescribed burning (See Prescribed Burning page for more information)
